People living in rented accommodation who are struggling to keep up their payments should seek advice, it has been suggested.
According to David Simms, cabinet member responsible for housing at Dudley Council, there are services available to help those who may be at risk of debt problems.
The local authority is providing free services for those residing in its flats and houses who are having difficulties making payments over the festive season.
Mr Dudley said: “We are providing these services to our tenants to help prevent as many residents as possible from getting into debt with rent arrears.”
Seeking advice at an early stage can prevent financial issues becoming a problem, he added.
Recently, internet bank Egg suggested that many parents in the UK risk spending more than they can afford over the Christmas period in order to entertain their children, potentially putting them at risk of entering debt problems.
