Hey, I know times are tough, but if you make the foolhardy decision to hand out cash to the guys in your wedding party, then your not likely to become too popular guy. Sure, everyone can use a little extra cash these days, but that’s not really the point of buying gifts for the boys. As much as it is a stereotype to say it, this is a perfect example of “it’s the thought that counts”. Groomsmen gifts are meant to be a token of appreciation for your buddies that have stuck with your through thick and thin. I mean, c’mon, these guys are probably getting dressed up in a monkey suit on a perfectly nice summer day, when they could be doing a hundred other things.

Not only are they making a sacrifice the day of the wedding, they’ve probably been with you for years, and know you at least as well as the bride does. Though, I understand in a totally different way. My point here, is put a little bit of thought into the gift buying process, and get them something they’re going to appreciate. I know, I know, most guys would rather have a root canal then go shopping for wedding gifts, but this is just one of those things you have to do. The boys in your band will appreciate it. And hey, you know what? If they don’t then they’ll just pawn it for cash. Hey, they’re guys!

In these days of tough economic times, cheap electricity is something that all people are looking to find. Whether you are looking for electricity that is powered by the sun or wind power, or electricity from more conventional sources, it is important to find electricity that is going to keep your family happy. Electricity can be found from a variety of sources. The cheapest electricity is obviously going to be found from renewable sources, although harnessing renewable energy usually involves some upfront investment in, for example, solar panels or a wind turbine. One can consult a number of environmental resources to find the best source of electricity in their area.

Many states have their electricity deregulated, and people can choose from the most inexpensive electricity providers in these states. One should interview local providers to find out which provider is the best for you. If your state is one that favors deregulation of the utilities, an individual will need to find out what the price is per kilowatt hour and what length of service agreement is required by the provider. Another important fact to find out is what sources will be used to generate the electricity provided. As an aside, it is interesting to note that the states that do not favor deregulation seem to have less expensive electricity prices, which suggests that competition is not always a good thing for making electricity cheaper.

One can also spend quite a bit of time investigating local utility companies to see if they have any savings for their consumers and what energy saving features they are offering. Electric utility rates do change from state to state and it is useful to know whether or not your state is offering the best price for electrical service. There are many factors to consider in your selection of electricity providers, and individuals should consider all of them before deciding on a provider.

Teachers are so very important and have a direct impact on how successful a child ends up being once they leave school. The problem is that often teachers aren’t paid as well as the ought to and the school they teach in might be in a very expensive area.

It’s not always easy, financially, to be a teacher however there are some benefits. For instance, there are special loans and mortgages for teachers. You can get access to deals that a lot of other people would be very envious and this is all down to the fact that teachers are such respected and much-needed member of our society.

Teachers have their own credit union (TFCU) which they can turn to when in need of any financing. The rates are fantastic when compared to other lenders and be be of real assistance when times are tough.

It’s not just about borrowing either. With the credit union you can deposit money as well and there are a number of options in this area. There’s a share savings account, money market account, IRAs and Health Savings Account (HSA) and more. As you can see there are loads of options for teachers to make the best of their finances.

For those teachers who are have a really difficult time finding a property to buy which is affordable should read up on the Teacher Next Door Program. The downside is that this doesn’t apply to just any property you want to buy. It needs to be a home bought via HUD. You might find that this isn’t for you and would rather find out about other ways to afford a home.

Sure, teaching can be a tough profession and often you might feel you aren’t getting paid as much as you would like. However there are loads of financial benefits of being a teacher and you shouldn’t forget that.

Going out to the deli for lunch, or nipping into Starbucks for your morning hit is perhaps hitting you in the stomach with more than a bad waistline. Check out these figures!

Ok, so we all like going out for a coffee. I love it personally. I don’t actually have an office, I have a coffee shop for an office. It saves me money. But if I didn’t have to use it and I had an office somewhere then I wouldn’t use a coffee shop at all: here’s why.

So a Latte has about 250 calories for a full fat. 4 of those a day and you are half way to your recommended daily intake. But that’s not the biggest problem with a latte. The problem is really financial.

Consider for a moment that you are rushing into work and you decide that on the way you are going to stop to get yourself a drink before you nip into the office. You have your routine, it’s dead easy. You go into the office carrying your foamy morning starter, and settle down with the newspaper or to the morning’s emails. It’s a bit like an athlete warming up for a race, and this is how you warm up ready for the day ahead of hard work. The telephone calls. The hassles. For you, it’s the only pleasure that you have in life.

Wrong.

It’s not a pleasure, it’s a deadly sin. Well not actually a deadly sin precisely, but it is going to do your bank account no good. That latte in the UK costs about £2.00. Get one of those every morning and it will cost 5x £2.00 x 45 weeks of the year. That’s a staggering £450 a year! Now, add to that the possible nip out to the deli for lunch every day, and you will be tipping your financial scales as heavily as your bathroom scales. Over £1000 a year? Groan! That’s bad.

So, here’s a solution. Set the alarm clock 10 minutes earlier. Seriously. Because if you do that then you can spend the time making a flask of coffee and a much more healthy snack and/or sandwich. Total cost will be about £1.00 a day, which is a much more reasonable figure. Can’t face that as a morning routine? Then do it the night before!

If you don’t believe what I say, then start budgeting and watching the cash flow. If you were in small business accounting using their software everyday to look after your figures, then you probably wouldn’t have too much of a problem picking up on these numbers. But if you are like me then you will probably want to consider something more practical and user friendly. There are a variety of excellent home softwares, and it’s worth consider some of the excellent free home accounting software that is available online, though you need to be careful of potential security issues.

Well, I think we’ve all learned our lesson, and understand the responsibility that comes with own a credit card. At least, I think most of us have. Credit cards are a necessary tool these days for every consumer, and if your smart about it, they can actually help with your bottom line. We’ve all heard stories, about people who run up too much credit, and end up in a bad situation. But, I think that’s just because those stories tend to be very dramatic, and give the media exactly what they want. But, it’s not necessarily representative of the general population. Most people are pretty responsible with their credit cards, and pay them off every month, avoid interest charges, and don’t try living beyond their means.

That’s all great and everything, but you can do more with a credit card if you really want to. Credit card companies that are run well, generally do pretty well. The Discover More Card is just one example of such a company. When credit companies are doing well, they often try to attract more customers by offering incentives to use their card. This is an example of a win-win-win situation, that’s good for the consumer, the financing company, and the merchant that accepts their cards. The credit card companies get more clients, the merchants make more sales, and you the consumer benefit for reduced expenses.

One such example, is the Cash Back Credit Cards. These cards usually offer a percentage of the consumers total purchases back to them in the form of cash payments. Now, if your smart, this would be a good card to use for all those items that you have to buy anyway. Especially those big ticket items. Vacataions, car repairs, home repairs, groceries, and anything else you spend lots of money on every month. Take a look at some of the purchases you make that you pay with check or debit cards. Do those companies accept credit cards? If so, then it may make a lot more sense to use the credit card for those purchases. You get the extra benefit of 30 days to pay, plus at the end of the year (or monthly), you get a bunch of money back.

I like the idea, of a credit card company paying me to use their card. Every year, my wife comes home all smiles from getting a week or two worth’s of groceries free from the cash refund on our card. That may not seem like a lot, but when your feeding a family of five with three teenagers, the numbers do add up.

It never cease to amaze me, how bizarre people can be at times. Even when a solution is staring them right in the face, they refuse to see the answer. Economically, times are tough, no doubt about it. The housing market is pretty much in the dumper, stocks aren’t what they used to be, and even though everyone keeps saying that recovery is just around the corner, that corner seems to be pretty far off. I have no doubt, that things will recover, it’s just that it takes so long. But, why wait for that to happen, when you can control your finances and make improvements in your life for the better.

I’ve never been a smoker (except for that one night in college), so I must admit to being a little callous to the plight of those who want to quit, but can’t quite seem to want it. It’s not that I’m totally insensitive to the problems and hurdles of addiction, I’ve a few addictions of my own that I needed to conquer. It’s an ongoing battle, and one you need to work at every day. There are tools to help though. Patches and gums and Green Smoke E-Cigs are supposed to be pretty effective in the battle to quit. If your determined to do it that is.

Your mind and will power, are in reality your two biggest weapons in the battle for breaking an addiction and improving your life. Not to mention your finances. It’s incredible what people spend on cigarettes. It really defies logic. I know, that’s how an addiction works. But, spending so much money on something that makes your health worse, and drains an already stressed bank account just seems like a double whammy. You know, at some point your going to have to quite anyway. They don’t let you smoke in hospital wards, and that’s usually where you end up when you can’t quit on your own.

The best thing you can do is get started. Reading some E-Cigarette reviews, may give you some suggestions to get you going. One of the things I find helpful when your trying to accomplish a big goal, is to dwell on the positives, and not the negatives. Don’t think about how hard or painful achieving something will be. That’s a sure fire way to never get your self out of the starting gate. What you need to think about, is how much better your life will be once your done smoking. Think of how you’ll be able to walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath. Think about not having the nasty smell in your house and clothes all the time. Even better, think about all the extra money your going to have when your not donating it all to the tobacco companies. Come up with some financial reward you will give your self once you’ve reached your goal. For me, it would be buying a Sony PS3. It’s something I’ve wanted for a while, but other items always seem to get financial priority.

Tackling quitting smoking one day at a time is really the only way to go. Don’t think of how long the path is, just think about getting through till bed time. With the correct frame of mind, it only a question of “when”, not “if” you will succeed.

If you can save money on your airfare the next time you take a vacation, you’ll be way ahead in cutting your overall expenses for your trip, because airplane tickets are normally the largest single expense of a holiday or business trip.

Recently I’ve begun using Bing travel because of their Farecast technology, which gives me more control over the deal that I get when I purchase air tickets online than anything else I have ever seen. When it comes to save money tips for travel, it might be my favorite.

Buying tickets online is a great way to quickly compare prices but Farecast takes it to another level. Along with price comparisons from the usual ticketing websites, it also tells you how likely it is that the prices that you are quoted might increase or decrease in the days or weeks until your flight date. The software quickly analyzes years of data on many, many millions of flights, including the historical price fluctuations of the route and date that you have specified in your search.

Based on all this data you are given a percentage likelihood as to the direction of the price change between now and your flight, along with a dollar amount you stand to save on a ticket if the software recommends that you wait. The first time I tried it I couldn’t believe it!

Just as valuable as a recommendation to wait to purchase might be, it also gives you recommendations to buy immediately based on the same information and percentage likelihood that prices might increase on that route, before your flight date.

There are all kinds of places you can save money these days. If your planning on setting up a company website, and need a new logo, then a free logo design website might be a good alternative.

The beauty of Farecast, and the reason I call this one the best tips to save money on travel that I know, is that this magical technology is wrapped right into the search you are performing anyway to find the best deal on airplane tickets. So you really have nothing to lose, even if you do disregard the recommendation of the software.

The point is that you will be a much more informed consumer based on all the historical data, yet all the complex analysis happens behind the scenes. Saving money tips don’t have to be a big mystery: in fact the Internet has given us myriad new ways to save money on everything.

Times are tough for everyone it seems these days. But, that doesn’t mean you have to take it. There are a few things you can do to save yourself some money, and they don’t necessarily mean you have to do without things you really enjoy and use. You just need to be a little smarter about what you spend your money on.

Gas prices are one of those things that drive us all crazy, but are also something we just can’t do without. We can however control how much gas we use with our driving habits. If you can, leave the car in the driveway and walk or bike to where you need to be. You’ll save money, and be in better shape. When you do have to drive, go easy on the gas and break pedal. By observing speed limits for a change, and avoiding excessive breaking, you’ll put less wear and tear on your car, and burn less gas.

Cellphones are great, and everyone has one. Review your plan though, just to make sure your not paying for options you no longer use or need. While at signup time, some of those extras may have seemed like a great idea, now they may not be necessary. While it can be tough and expensive to break a contract, it’s something to keep in mind at renewal time. If it makes sense for you, it will save money to get rid of your landline. How many phone numbers does one person need anyway?

I know it’s a pain in the butt, but keeping a little log of every time you spend money can be a real eye opener. While major charges that land on your credit card or bank account may seem obvious, it’s the little out of pocket stuff that really adds up. How many dollars do you spend every month on coffee, newspapers, magazines, and lunch? Don’t know? Well, you should.

Stick a dollar or two from your spare change into a jar or shoe box every day. Sure, it seems pretty old school, but it also adds up. Wasn’t it Grandma that said “worry about the pennies, and the dollars will take care of themselves”? It’s true, a dollar or two every day adds up to somewhere between $300 and $750 at the end of the year. That makes for a pretty nice Christmas present for someone. Maybe you?

How about robbing a bank Well, not exactly, but if your like most consumers, you probably spend way to much money on banking fees. Do you know how much money you pay to used that debit card, or an ATM machine that doesn’t belong to your personal bank. It all adds up after a while. Check out some of the online banking services like ING, that have much lower fees. Just make sure the services they provide are adequate for you. Those bankers have enough of your money already.
